The Indian Premier League 2024's 51st match saw the Kolkata Knight Riders take on the Mumbai Indians at the iconic Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. The hosts won the toss and opted to field first hoping that the dew factor would help them chase down the total.

It was a horrible start for the Kolkata Knight Riders as they lost four wickets inside the powerplay as Nuwan Thushara sent three batters back to the pavilion. This forced the side to use Manish Pandey as an impact substitute and his partnership alongside Venkatesh Iyer helped them reach a competitive total of 169 on the scoreboard in their 20 overs.

In reply, Mumbai Indians also lost three wickets in the powerplay and it seemed like the Kolkata Knight Riders would bring the side back into the contest. Later on, over the course of six overs, the hosts lost three more wickets which put them ahead in the game. Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s impressive performance with the bat, Mumbai Indians ended up on the losing end today at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.

Here are the three changes Mumbai Indians should make to get back to winning ways

3. Better captaincy

Hardik Pandya's captaincy has been an issue for the franchise and some poor calls on the field have led to them losing the key moments in the match.

Today, as well, the all-rounder could have handed the ball to Jasprit Bumrah in the middle overs as he could have broken the partnership at the right stage and could have had an easier target to hunt down in the second innings. The fixing of his batting position is also needed as it would help settle down the batting order as well.

2. Use Mohammed Nabi instead of Naman Dhir

The Mumbai Indians played with only three overseas players in their starting XI today. It came as a surprise that they had dropped Mohammad Nabi as the all-rounder was a great asset for the franchise in the few games he played this season.

The team management might look to bring him back into the lineup because of what he offers to the team as a whole. He can chip in with a few overs and can also smash the ball during the death overs.

1. Promote Nehal Wadhera to number three

The Mumbai Indians' batting line-up failed once again as they were unable to chase down the total set by the Kolkata Knight Riders. Naman Dhir might be dropped in the next game and it might be time that Nehal Wadhera is tried at that position.

The Punjab batter has showed that he has the ability to bat and has played some great innings over the past couple of seasons. He can be a great option to have in the batting as he knows how to handle pressure situations and get quick runs in the powerplay if required.
