In what should have been a clash for a place in the top four, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders came to the Wankhede Stadium with different ambitions. A win for the visiting KKR side will take them closer to the top of the table.

Hardik Pandya and Mumbai Indians on the other hand will just play to keep pride. It was the home team who won the toss and chose to bowl first as Naman Dhir came in for Mohammad Nabi. KKR on the other hand went in with the same team from the last match.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 50 runs off 5 overs

It was a frenetic first five overs as the Mumbai Indians bowlers had the KKR batters in trouble. Nuwan Thushara got the wickets of Phil Salt and Angkrish Raghuvanshi before dismissing Shreyas Iyer. Hardik Pandya then got the big wicket of Sunil Narine for 8.

Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 (Mandatory – 57/4)

Rinku Singh and Venkatesh Iyer played out Naman Dhir with caution with just one four thanks to a Piyush Chawla misfield. The pitch has been a bit two-paced and the KKR bowlers namely Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy would be licking their lips.

Kolkata Knight Riders: First Strategic Time-out (72/5 from 9 overs)

Just when KKR thought that their woes were over it wasn’t as Rinku Singh offered a simple return catch to Piyush Chawla. Manish Pandey was then introduced as the impact player to make his first appearance for the season.

Stat Alert: Piyush Chawla achieves special milestone

The wicket of Rinku Singh put Mumbai Indians leggie Piyush Chawla in a special class. The veteran bowler got his 184th wicket making him the second most successful bowler in IPL. Chawla went past Dwayne Bravo who had 183 wickets in his illustrious IPL career.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 100 runs from 11.5 overs

After losing five early wickets KKR found themselves coming back into the contest thanks to Venkatesh Iyer. The left-handed batter who had scored a century last year at the same venue kept attacking the MI bowlers to push them onto the back foot.

Kolkata Knight Riders: Second Strategic time-out (128/5 from 15 overs)

Mumbai Indians and Hardik Pandya let go of a great chance to put the KKR team under more pressure. Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey mixed caution with aggression to keep the visitors within touching distance of a good score.

Half-Century: Venkatesh Iyer off 36 balls

Playing against his favourite team, Venkatesh Iyer came good once again to score a crucial fifty. At one stage KKR looked like they wouldn’t cross 120 but the left-handed batter played valiantly to take his team out of the woods.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 150 runs from 16.5 overs

Hardik Pandya gave Mumbai Indians a vital break when he had the big wicket of Manish Pandey for 42. Andre Russell and Venkatesh Iyer hit two sixes before the Jamaican was runout for 7 in the 17th over.

End of the Innings: Kolkata Knight Riders 169 all out from 20 overs

Barring the stand between Manish Pandey and Venkatesh Iyer none of the other KKR batters could put up a fight. Some tight bowling by Jasprit Bumrah meant that MI could restrict KKR to a decent score that could be chased down at this venue.
