In a pretty one-sided encounter at the Wankhede Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders emerged victorious against Mumbai Indians by 24 runs in the 51st match of the IPL on May 3, 2024. Opting to bat first, KKR posted a competitive total of 169 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Venkatesh Iyer was the standout performer for KKR, scoring a brilliant 70 runs off 52 balls, earning him the Player of the Match award. His innings, supported by valuable contributions from Manish Pandey (42) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (13), propelled KKR to a challenging total despite some early setbacks.

Mumbai Indians, chasing 170 for victory, faltered in their pursuit as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Suryakumar Yadav's valiant effort of 56 runs off 35 balls kept MI in the hunt, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled to build partnerships. Mitchell Starc led KKR's bowling attack with four crucial wickets, while Sunil Narine and Andre Russell chipped in with two wickets each, restricting MI to 145 runs in 18.5 overs. Despite Tim David's cameo of 24 runs, MI fell short of the target, handing KKR a well-deserved victory.

There are a lot of questions but that will take some time to answer: Hardik

"I mean obviously in the batting inning, we couldn’t form partnerships and kept losing wickets, in T20s if you don’t form partnerships, it will cost you. Not much, there are a lot of questions but that will take some time to answer but for now, not much to say. As you mentioned, the bowlers did a fantastic job, the wicket got a little better after the first innings, the dew came on. We will go through the game and see what could we have done better. You keep fighting, that is what I tell to myself, never leave the battlefield, tough days come but good also come here, it’s challenging but challenges make you better," Hardik said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
