Even one of the biggest sports institutions like BBC sports is vulnerable of being selective with their facts and hypocrisy. Pakistan pacer Mohammed Amir made his first-class comeback in England after the spot-fixing ban as he appeared for Pakistan in the warm-up match against Somerset ahead of their series against England. Amir was quite impressive with the ball and picked up 3 wickets.
BBC Sport while sharing the news used a caption – “Spot-fixer Amir takes three wickets on return” which definitely shows it isn’t going to be easy for Amir.
It was shocking and England cricketer Ravi Bopara decided to tweet about it:
The guy performs well and that's the best headline BBC sport could come up with? Poor from BBC sport. #muppets pic.twitter.com/FTGWvuZ4bP

This is the same media which didn’t find any issue while reporting the qualification of American sprinter Justin Gatlin for the Rio Olympic Games. The headline used here was – “Justin Gatlin has made Rio 2016 in style.”

Chris Gayle, who made several headlines during his Australia visit. His comments during an interview with Mel McLaughling in the BBL were labeled ‘inappropriate’ and ‘sexist’. Gayle was fined $10,000 for it.
But BBC didn’t report it like, “The sexist Gayle: Batsman’s body ‘needs a break’ after Somerset spell”. Instead they said, “Chris Gayle: Batsman’s body ‘needs a break’ after Somerset spell”
Then what is so special about Amir, after he has completed his ban?

Gatlin was banned twice for doping and yet BBC Sport didn’t make a mention of it.
What could be the possible reason for this difference?
- They possible want to link the controversy to the Pakistan cricket team any time they tour England
- They may believe that Amir’s crime is much more serious than all other news
Isn’t it unfortunate that BBC wasn’t sensitive enough towards a boy who has been apologetic and has also served the sentenced term.
