Top 10 Batsmen with most runs in 4s and 6s in an ODI inning

The game of cricket has become more batsman dominated and fans have no problems with that at all. The skills and abilities on display are simply wonderful. The crackling sound which comes out of the bat when the batsman scorches the ball off his bat to the fence always excites the spectators. The audience loves watching audacious batsmen thinking out of the box and playing adventurous shots. It has to be admitted that without such fireworks the game would be dull and meaningless. Here are the batsmen with most runs in 4s and 6s in an ODI inning. 10. Sachin Tendulkar – 118 runs: Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar hit 200* against the Proteas at Indore during the India v South Africa 2nd ODI on February 24, 2010. The masterful knock consisted of 25 fours and 3 sixes. In all, 118 runs out of his world record inning came in the form of fours and sixes. 9. MS Dhoni – 120 runs: (Photo Source: AFP) India’s limited overs skipper is ninth in the list. Dhoni is known for his power hitting skills and his regarded as the best finisher in the world. Coming out to bat at number 3 against Sri Lanka, Dhoni hit his career best knock of 183*. The future India captain struck 15 fours and 10 towering sixes and scored 120 runs in boundaries. His match-winning innings happens to be the highest score by a wicketkeeper-batsman in ODIs. 8. Herschelle Gibbs – 126 runs: South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs. (Photo by ALEXANDER JOE/AFP/Getty Images) Herschelle Gibbs played the knock of his life against Australia at the Wanderers in 2006 when he stunned the cricketing world with his match-winning knock of 175 runs to enable South Africa chase a world record target of 434 runs. The match was an epic and so was his batting performance which included 21 fours and 7 sixes and accounted to 72% of the overall runs he scored. 7. AB de Villiers – 132 runs: Ab de Villiers vs WI. West Indies had no clue about how to stop de Villiers at the Wanderers stadium in 2015 when he went berserk and smashed a 31-ball hundred, the fastest in ODIs. De Villiers didn’t stop after his century and went on to score 149 runs off just 44 balls which included 16 sixes and 9 fours. He hit at a mind-boggling strike rate of 338 and a stunning 132 runs came only in fours and sixes. 6. Chris Gayle – 136 runs: Chris Gayle. Gayle was on full song when he destroyed the feeble Zimbabwe bowling attack with his amazing knock of 215 at The Manuka Oval during the 2015 World Cup. Gayle batted effortlessly and whacked 16 sixes and 10 fours in his fabulous knock. 5. Virender Sehwag – 142: Indian batsman Virender Sehwag. In 2011, Sehwag played a world record innings of 219, studded with 25 boundaries and 7 sixes. He broke Sachin Tendulkar’s previous best of 200* and became the only the second player to hit a double century in the history of ODIs. 4. Rohit Sharma – 144 runs: (Photo Source : PTI) Chinnaswamy Stadium at Bangalore witnessed Rohit Sharma smash a blistering 209 against Australia in 2013. This made him the third Indian player and overall as well to hit a double century in ODI cricket. His whirlwind knock was studded with 16 sixes and 12 fours which added up to 144 runs out of the 20 that he scored that night. 3. Shane Watson – 150 runs: Shane Watson. (© Getty Images) Shane Watson was in amazing striking form when he smashed a majestic 185 not out against Bangladesh in 2011. It was one of the most entertaining innings of the 2011 World Cup. His knock included 15 boundaries and an equal number of sixes which made up to almost 81% of his overall individual score. 2. Martin Guptill – 162 runs: Martin Guptill. (© Getty Images) During the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, Martin Guptill became the fifth player to score an ODI double hundred when he hit an unbeaten 237 against West Indies. His knock was compiled with 24 fours and 11 sixes is the second best in the list. In all, Guptill hit 162 runs in the form of sixes and fours. 1. Rohit Sharma – 186 runs: India v Sri Lanka 2014. Sharma achieved this record when he hit the unbelievable world record individual score of 264 against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in 2014. This knock is the highest individual score by any batsman in ODIs. Almost 70% of the runs came in either boundary shots.
