Anil Kumble, the new Indian head coach, has impressed everyone with his coaching techniques from the day he took up the prestigious job. He conducted a unique ‘One Hour Challenge’ test for every cricketer and only one player survived it.

Kumble took the Indian cricket team to Alur which is 40 kilometers away from Bangalore for the test. The batsmen had to bat for full one hour without getting out and the bowlers needed to pick up as many wickets as possible.

This may not seem to be the toughest of the challenge for the highly experienced batting unit, but the results are not that great for the men with the bat. Test team skipper Virat Kohli got out two times in the one hour and it was Ravindra Jadeja, who claimed his wicket on both the occasions.

Indian Test openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay also got out twice in the 1-hour test. The duo was up against the pace bowling trio of Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the first 30 minutes and against Amit Mishra, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin in the next 30 minutes.

Dhawan threw his wicket away to an expensive drive edging it to Ashwin at slips. Then he gave a return catch to Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the second chance. Ishant picked the wicket of Vijay for the first time but was run out in the second attempt. Both KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara were run out once during their batting period.

The only batsman to remain unbeaten and win Kumble’s challenge was the vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, who is considered as the new Wall of Indian cricket and has Rahul Dravid in his game in bits and pieces.

It is really a worry that the Indian batsmen failed to bat against the Indian bowlers in home conditions. However, it is practice match after all, and the batsman was trying to experiment some new shots. Virat, for example, tried both the conventional as well as the reverse sweep against the turning ball, which is not something he often does in Test cricket.
