Steve Smith has had a history of getting involved in serious controversies. He is counted among the top batters of the modern era and is a match-winner on any day. Despite being a player of such calibre, Smith has had some chapters in his career that he would want to forget.

One of the top controversies in Smith’s career was against India in Bangalore in 2018. Smith was seen looking at the dressing room while taking a call for the DRS. The then Australian skipper called it a “brain fade” back then. He was heavily criticized by the former Australian cricketers as well.

The then Indian captain Virat Kohli accused the Australians of routinely abusing the DRS calls and he said that they always tend to take help from the dressing room. The Sandpaper gate was also one of the darkest phases of Smith’s career as he was removed from the captaincy of the Australian cricket team after that.
