Top 10 cricketers who faded away from International Cricket

The 'Gentleman’s game' cricket has emerged as a religion in many countries and the fan following for this sport is huge. With the emergence of the sport, the game has become more demanding for the players. The cricketers always need to adapt as per their evolving formats and should always look for various methods to score runs and take wickets. With a swift-moving world and with the hulky competition, the players are always expected to prove themselves again and again. It is never an easy task to represent the national side ahead of the population who is desperate to play cricket for their country. Like how difficult it is to represent the national side, it is coequally arduous for the players to sustain in this sport. Here, we will list some of the players who couldn’t survive in this game despite making a decent International start. Let's look at the players who lost track after making a fine start in their international career: 1. Karun Nair Karun Nair Test. (Photo by Matt Roberts/Getty Images) Karun Nair, the Indian batter carved his name in the hall of fame by hitting 303* runs in just 381 balls against England in a Test match which was held at Chennai. He became only the second Indian batter after Virender Sehwag to hit 300 runs. He only took three innings to hit his maiden century which he converted to triple hundred and is the fastest to do so. This Karnataka batter shot to fame overnight after this innings. But soon, he was dropped from the team after giving very few chances. After his record-breaking score, he played just four innings and didn’t get past a decent score after which he was dropped from the team and got lost in the dark. With an average of 62.33 in Tests, he still hopes for a comeback in the Indian squad. But some questions remained in the loop for this player’s identity and his whereabouts as he lost track after his brilliant knock against the World-class England side. 2. Varun Aaron Varun Aaron. (Photo by David Rogers/Getty Images) Varun Aaron, the right-arm-fast-bowler who was portrayed high by the Indian coaches for his express pace debuted for the Indian side way back in 2011. He is one of the very few fastest bowlers in the country. This 32-year-old bowler debuted in 2011, but he was injured and came back only in 2014 and he bowled one of the fastest deliveries of 152.5 Kmph in Indian cricket history. He has played nine Tests and ODIs each and has taken 18 wickets and 11 wickets, respectively. This player’s main enemy was his injuries. His career had many full stops because of his injury conditions. He was overshadowed by the other fast bowlers then, but still, he is confident to make a comeback again for the Indian team. 3. Parvez Rasool Parvez Rasool. (Photo Source: Twitter) Parvez Rasool is an Indian right-arm offbreak bowling all-rounder. He is one of the famous names in the Indian domestic circuit. He got a chance to represent the one-day cricket team against Bangladesh in 2014. He bowled 10 overs and got 2 wickets with an economy of six and that became his only ODI appearance for India. He was the first player to represent the Indian cricket team from the state of Jammu & Kashmir and he is the captain of their team. He was given a T20I chance in 2017 against England where he dismissed their captain Eoin Morgan and conceded 32 runs in 4 overs. As the better Bowling all-rounder, Ravi Jadeja cemented his spot in the team, other players like Rasool didn’t get much of a chance to play for the country. 4. Matt Renshaw Matt Renshaw. He debuted for the Australian Test side in 2016 against South Africa when he was just 19 years old. He impressed the selectors in his second match by scoring 71 runs and in the same series against Pakistan, he hit the top score of 184, by a young player of that age. He was spoken high about after this inning and was expected to be a regular opener of the side. But he just played a total of 11 Test matches and has hit 636 runs with an average of 33.47. He was dropped from the team due to his lack of form in the later matches. He was soon replaced by other batters in the Australian side and has not come back yet after his last match in 2018. 5. Peter Forrest Peter Forrest. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Peter Forrest was once upon a time one of the most sought-after talents in the domestic circuit of Australia. So much so that the swashbuckling right-handed batter was tipped to be the future of the nation and to take the mantle forward. Notably, Forrest made his First-Class debut for the New South Wales state back in 2007 against a dominating side Queensland. Thereafter he also featured in other formats of the game as well. After having a sublime run in the domestic arena, the selectors of Cricket Australia decided to hand him his international debut during a tri-series where the Asian teams India and Sri Lanka played as well. The now 38-year-old showed glimpses of his batting brilliance in Adelaide when he made a memorable start to his career against India by slamming a fifty. Thereafter, in just his fourth match of his international career, Peter Forrest garnered immense limelight by slamming a century against Sri Lanka. Now just when things were seemingly all glittery and a star was on the rise, Australia showed faith in him and Peter Forrest was soon on the flight to England and West Indies. However, the promising talent soon began to fade by his lacklustre performances in tandem. Consequently, Forrest got axed from the Australian side and he never got another chance to prove his worth at the apex level of cricket after playing his last game at the Old Trafford. During his 15-match ODI career, the batter scored 368 runs from 14 innings and averaged just 26.29. During this short span, his best individual score was the lone century he scored along with three half-centuries. However, the Windsor-born cricketer continued to play the coveted Big Bash League (BBL) with the Brisbane Heats side after he was drafted into the side back in 2012. 6. He is a left-handed batter and right-handed bowler of the England Test cricket team. After serving a few years in county cricket, he was called for the International side. This 29-year-old player made his debut against India at Wankhede in 2016 and became the 101st cricketer to score a century on his Test debut. He hit his highest runs of 146 against Sri Lanka in 2018. In his 32 Test Innings, he managed to hit just two centuries and a half-century. He didn’t pick any wickets in his International career and due to his lack of scoring runs, he was replaced by other better players. He has not yet made a comeback after his last Test in 2019. 7. Vijay Shankar Vijay Shankar. (Photo by Kai Schwoerer/Getty Images) The sudden boom of the All-rounder Vijay Shankar was something which even he wouldn’t have expected. To start with, he is a batting all-rounder who is a hard hitter and is a handy medium-paced bowler. He debuted for the Indian side in T20I against Sri Lanka. He has played nine T20I matches and has hit 101 runs with an average strike rate of 25.25 and 138.36, respectively. He has also taken five wickets with an economy of 9.1. It was a shocker when the newbie was selected to the Indian World Cup team in 2019 ahead of a player like Ambati Rayudu. On playing 12 ODI matches, he has scored 223 runs and has taken four wickets in his short stint. He last represented India in the 2016 World Cup against West Indies and was dropped from the squad later. He suddenly rose to fame by playing in the World Cup and more suddenly by the downfall he experienced. 8. Rahul Sharma Rahul Sharma. He came into the limelight after his impressive bowling performances in IPL 2011 for Pune Warriors. Rahul made his ODI debut under Virender Sehwag in 2011 against West Indies and he impressed in his first match itself by taking three wickets and giving just 43 runs in 10 overs. He has played four matches in ODIs and has taken six wickets with a career economy of 5.16. This 35-year-old player has played two T20I matches and has picked three wickets. But to the question of why didn’t he play many matches, he answered in an interview that his back and shoulder injury affected his rhythm and has not played competitive cricket since 2014. 9. Jackson Bird Jackson Bird of Australia. (Photo by Michael Dodge/Getty Images) Jackson Bird is an Australian Test bowler who is known for his high-arm action and for hitting the pitch hard. He took 100 wickets in just about 20 odd matches in first-class cricket which made him visible for the selector’s eyes. This 6-feet-bowler made his international Test debut in 2012 against Sri Lanka and he took four wickets just in 22 overs in both innings combined. He has played nine Test matches and has taken 34 wickets which includes a fifer. Bird’s career started to fade away as he became wicketless and in heavy competent Australian pacers, he failed to make his mark and was replaced by the other better players. This 34-year-old player donned the Test jersey last in 2017 against England. 10. Abhinav Mukund Abhinav Mukund. (Photo Source: Twitter) Abhinav Mukund is an Indian opening left-handed batter who played for Tamil Nadu in the domestic circuit. He has his highest first-class score of 300* and he is a player with a temperament and has the potential to get stuck in the crease for a long time producing runs. His good records in the domestic circuit earned him the Test cap in 2011 in the place of the rested openers. However, he failed to make an impact in his debut, but his 48 and 62 in his 4th and 5th innings earned him a spot in the England series but didn’t play well. Mukund was called back again in 2017 against Sri Lanka and in his 14th innings, he scored 81 runs but was not enough for him to impress the selectors further. He was not given a chance after that and in his short journey with the Indian Test team, he has hit 320 runs in 7 matches.
