Also known as C. Aubrey Smith, he played one Test for England, against South Africa in 1889, before moving to America and becoming a stage and film actor, well suited as the officer-and-a-gentleman type.

His films include classics The Prisoner of Zenda, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and then there were none. In Hollywood, he organised English actors into a cricket team and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
