The meteoric rise of Mohammad Rizwan has meant that Sarfaraz Ahmed is no longer in the scheme of things in Test match cricket for Pakistan. Rizwan has had a stupendous run in Test cricket in the year 2021. In the 7 innings that he has played this year, Rizwan has scored 303 runs at an average in excess of 50.

And, that has literally closed the door for another wicketkeeper-batsman, Sarfaraz Ahmed. Sarfaraz Ahmed last played a Test match for Pakistan in 2019. Since then, Rizwan has been the first-choice wicketkeeper for Pakistan. And Sarfaraz is already 34 years old, and it is unlikely that he can make a comeback into the Test squad once again at this age.

Sarfaraz is still in the scheme of things in ODI and T20I cricket for Pakistan. So, Sarfaraz Ahmed can announce his retirement from Test cricket and continue to render his services for the Pakistan side in limited-overs cricket.
