10 facts about Stuart Broad that you need to know: Stuart Christopher John Broad, the dashing English bowler has been renowned for serving the batters with ripping spells of bowling apart from his intensified feisty character on the field which has unruffled batsmen on numerous occasions. From making his debut in 2006 to today, Broad has voyaged a beautiful cricket journey which had its shares of ups and downs but his merciless attitude on the field has always brought wonders to him.

Stuart Broad’s partnership with James Anderson has been deflating the opponents for years. The 6 foot 5 inches tall bowler bends his back and hits the deck hard and then his swinging balls do the talking when they take off at a speed in excess of 85 mph towards the batters like some tracer bullets.

1. Cricket runs in his blood:

Stuart Broad is the son of the former English cricketer Chris Broad who is an ICC match-referee. And that’s certainly not the end. Broad’s sister Gemma works for the England team as a team analyst which is a testimony about the involvement of the Broad’s in the game.

2. Started as opening batsman:

Genetics have its effects and Stuart Broad is no exception. He followed the footprints of his father as he was an aspiring opening batsman till the age of 17. But, suddenly he realized that he could bowl as well as anyone and his aspiration tilted towards fast bowling.

3. When Yuvraj’s gain became Broad’s pain:

In the World T20 2007, Yuvraj Singh scripted history when he blasted Broad for 6 sixes off 6 deliveries. Broad holds the rather unwanted record of conceding 6 sixes in an over. The raging Yuvi who blew fire on Broad was the result of Andrew Flintoff’s banter but it was Stuart who had to face the disastrous consequences.

4. Two Hat-tricks:

The English pacer Broad has so far claimed two Hat-tricks in Test cricket. The first one came against the Indian’s at Trent Bridge which is also his home ground in 2011 when he got MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh and Praveen Kumar off successive deliveries. While, the second hat-trick also came against an Asian nation: Sri Lanka, when he grabbed the prized scalps of Kumar Sangakkara, Dinesh Chandimal and Shaminda Eranga in 2014.

5. Sledging Sourav Ganguly:

In a ODI match between England and India, Broad sledged Sourav Ganguly but the Indian southpaw got furious and reminded the young bowler how a kid like him should behave. Soon, Ganguly hammered a six of Broad’s bowling but in the end Stuart Broad had the last laugh as he got him out.

6. Comparison with Sir Garfield Sobers:

In 2008, after a Test match between England and South Africa, the former England great Geoffery Boycott compared Stuart Broad with one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game, Sir Garfield Sobers.

7. One burst bowler:

The world has witnessed that when Stuart Broad gets on fire, his destruction is irreparable and unstoppable. Broad has a knack of producing spell from hell. From Oval Test of 2009 against Australia (5/37) to the menacing spell against New Zealand (7/44) at Lord’s in 2013, he has won matches in one eruption. His vicious twin spells at Trent Bride against India (6/46) in 2011 and today against Australia (8/15) stand the tallest.

8. The Bouncer which sent chills down his spine:

Who can forget the furious bouncer from Indian speedster Varun Aaron which broke Broad’s nose as well as blackened both his eyes. Broad had admitted that the nightmares of that blow had haunted him a lot and after that his batting has never been the same.

9. Love for Lord’s:

Very few players in the history of cricket have been able to carve their name on the honors board of the Mecca of cricket Lord’s for their performances with both the ball and bat in hand. The 29-year old has taken two seven-wicket haul’s at Lord’s against West Indies and New Zealand respectively. While in 2010, he played an awe-inspiring knock of 169 at a time when his side was tottering at 102-7.

10. Most cherishing year:

Stuart Broad has been a consistent performer for England since his debut but it was 2013 in which this man transpired to new grandeur’s. In 14 Test matches, Stuart Broad claimed 62 wickets with 5 fifers and one ten-wicket haul, that year. It was 4th Ashes Test match at Durham in 2013, when he took 6 wickets in one spell to en route English team to a famous Ashes series glory. Chasing 299 runs, Aussies were 174-3 but his heroics got them bundled out on 224 runs.
