Not many knew about Jayant Yadav until he bowled some crucial overs for the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL during the powerplays and soon had his national call-up for the tour to Zimbabwe. While the ones who have played with him regard Yadav as a very talented player, there are others who are unaware of how effective the youngster from Haryana is. Here are some interesting facts about Jayant Yadav:
1. The roots:
Jayant Yadav hails from Delhi and was born on 22 January 1990.
2. Playing mould:
His performances might indicate him to be a regular off-break bowler, but he is more than capable with the bat. He bats right-handed and bowls right arm off-break. A gentle lead up to the crease and a conventional classical offspinner’s action make up Jayant Yadav.
3. 6-wicket haul on debut:
Yadav made his first-class debut for Haryana in the year 2011 at a young age of 21 against Gujarat. He was impressive with his performance on debut and bagged 3 wickets in each inning, resulting in a 6-wicket haul for the debutant.
4. Prowess with the bat and record partnership:
A year later, Yadav showed he is more than just a tailender with the bat. Playing against Karnataka, he put on a 392-run stand for the 8th wicket with Amit Mishra. In the process, he registered his first ton and went on to make it even bigger, ending with 211.
5. Getting the better of Alastair Cook:
He played in the match against England XI at Ahmedabad when England toured India in 2012. He bagged 4 wickets in the first innings that included the prized scalp of English skipper Alastair Cook.

6. 13 Wickets in a match:
When Haryana played Saurashtra at Rajkot in 2014-15 season, Jayant bagged 7/64 in the first innings and then followed it up with figures of 6/90 in the second innings to complete his 13-wicket haul of the match.
7. Topping the charts:
In the 2014-15 season of the Ranji season, he emerged as the leading wicket-taker for Haryana with 33 wickets to his name. Jayant was rewarded with selection for the India A squad for the home series against South Africa A and Bangladesh A.
8. Batting with Sehwag:
He started his 2015-16 Ranji season with his second first-class hundred and during the match, he was promoted at no.4. Yadav had a 206-run partnership with his new Haryana teammate Virender Sehwag.
9. Part of the historic chase:
Playing for Rest of India in the Irani Cup in the 2015-16 season against Mumbai, Jayant Yadav was a part of the ROI team that chased down a record total of 482 to defeat the Ranji champions. Yadav bagged 8 wickets in the match and had also scored 46 in the first innings. He remained unbeaten on 19 when ROI chased 482 with 4 wickets to spare.
10. IPL career:
Yadav bagged his IPL contract in 2015 with the Delhi Daredevils. He played in only 3 matches in the season but finished up with an economy of just 4.14.
11. The miser bowler:
At the start of IPL 2016, Yadav had the most impressive economy in T20 cricket with an economy of 5.62. Currently, at the end of the IPL 2016 league stages, he has an economy of 5.97, which is highly impressive given that he bowls in the powerplay.
12. National Call-up
Following his impressive performances in the IPL for the Delhi Daredevils and constant performances in the domestic season, he was called up for the national team for the tour of Zimbabwe in June 2016.
