This is probably the most famous innings to not have any video footage due to BBC cameramen being on strike on the match day. India met Zimbabwe in a must win match to proceed to the semifinals.

India was reduced to 17/5 and in walked Indian captain Kapil Dev. Kapil went on to play probably the most important innings in India’s World cup history. He scored an unbeaten 175 runs, India’s first ODI century and took India to a more respectable 266 runs with help from Syed Kirmani and Roger Binny. He hit 6 sixes and 16 fours. His century came from just 72 runs.

Zimbabwe couldn’t chase the score and was bundled out for 235 with Kevin Curran scoring 73 runs. India won the match and went on to defeat the mighty West Indies in the final to lift the 1983 World Cup.
