This historic stadium was established in 1916 and is the oldest continuously used cricket stadium in India. The Chepauk crowd is known to be amongst the most appreciative in the country. The Pakistani team made a lap of honor in appreciation of the spectators’ sporting behavior when Pakistan won a Test match here in 1999. The Australians seemed to have enjoyed the hospitality on offer here, something which is evident from their performances here. They beat India in a Reliance World Cup match played on 9th October 1987. With the Aussies winning by 1 run, this match remains one of the most dramatic ODI matches ever played. Their other wins include the ones over Zimbabwe (1987 WC), West Indies (1989 Nehru Cup) and New Zealand (1996 WC).
