3. Usman Khawaja (Australia)
Usman Khawaja has been constantly in and out of the Australian limited-overs squads. Inconsistency has been the biggest factor. However, this year, he has turned it around really well. He’s striking the ball well and has looked in very good touch over the few months.
In the absence of the two stalwarts, Steve Smith and David Warner, Khawaja has relished the opportunity. He’s batted at the top of the order and has scored consistently. He is this year’s highest run-getter as he has put together 769 runs at an average of 59.15.
This is Khawaja’s maiden World Cup and may turn out to be his last as well. The left-handed Pakistan-born batsman is already 32 and may not feature in the 2023 edition of the World Cup.
