Illnesses to bowler Josh Hazlewood before the second ODI against England opened the doors for a young fast bowler, Jhye Richardson to make his debut. The youngster has been on the selection radar for a while now and has finally gone ahead and made his debut. The 21-year old is currently contracted by the Perth Scorchers in the ongoing Big Bash League.
Although he couldn’t make into the final eleven the third ODI, the youngster looked good picking two wickets in that game. Josh Hazelwood returning from illness meant that he had to take the bench. However, he impressed one and all with his raw talent as well as pace despite being a small man. He has to be nurtured and developed for the future. He would be a sure choice to represent Australia in the near future.

1. One-day debut at just 19
Jhye Richarson made his one-day debut for Western Australia at the age of 19 in 2015-16, and his Sheffield Shield debut later that season.
2. Big responsibility at the under-19 level
He has been a prolific wicket-taker at under-age level for WA and was named ‘vice-captain’ of the 2015-16 under-19 squad. The highly-rated Richardson was part of Australia’s Under-19 side which toured England in 2015.
3. T20I Debut last year
The youngster had a breakout BBL-06 and was named to debut for Australia against Sri Lanka in T20 cricket. He was the player of the match in ‘BBL Finals’. He played two T20I’s in that series. At the time of his national call-up, he had played only one first-class game.
4. Bowls deceptively quick
Jhye Richardson clocks great speeds with the ball. He often beats the batsman with his pace. His ability to bowl quickly is one of his ‘Unique Selling Points’ (USP). He also swings the ball a good deal and also has a great slower ball.

Another interesting aspect about Jhye Richardson is to stay calm under pressure. In crunch situations, he doesn’t let the situations dominate his performance. Playing high-intensity matches in BBL must have helped. This certainly makes him one of the death-bowlers to watch out for in the future.

In 15 matches that he played, he picked 16 wickets. However, his economy is on the higher side at 9.12. He has a good strike rate of 19.1.

He was born was born on September 20, 1996. It is great for a young pacer like him to generate some good pace.
