6. Irfan Pathan
The Australian summer of 2003 had a particular significance when 19-year old Irfan Pathan burst onto the scene. Boasting of vicious swing and terrifying pace, Pathan made life absolutely terrible for the Australians in their own backyard. His batting abilities were also shown soon after and he became one of India’s premier all-rounders after that.
Having played 120 ODIs and 29 Tests since then, Pathan was one of the most important members of the Indian squad until his axing in early 2009. With bad form and a significant drop in pace one of the reasons for the same, the southpaw has found himself once again in the labyrinth of the domestic circuit of Indian cricket.
However, in spite of this, Pathan has a supremely impressive first-class record. For someone who bats as low as he does, nearing 4000 runs is impressive. To go with that, Irfan also has 352 wickets. Needless to say, he will be leading Baroda in the upcoming edition of the Ranji Trophy.
