Just like the above unlucky ones, even this legendary name from Sri Lanka has neither savoured a World Cup glory nor an IPL trophy. With regard to his World Cup journey, Sanga had made his ODI debut in the year 2000 and has in total got featured in four World Cup editions (2003,2007,2011,2015). Perhaps during his debut World Cup edition, although Sri Lanka had qualified for the semi-finals, the Australians had impregnably wiped them off from the tournament.

However, while the 2003 World Cup semi-final loss had brought misery, Sanga had to swallow a much bitter pill especially in the next two World Cup events where Sri Lanka had subsequently lost the two finals against Australia and India. Precisely, the 2011 final loss against India was a fretful torment as at that time Sanga was helming Sri Lankan cricket.

Nevertheless, even in the IPL, Sangakkara has played the tournament for six consecutive seasons wherein he has featured himself for franchises like KXIP, Deccan Chargers, and SRH. The closest Sanga had come towards the IPL glory was in the inaugural season where KXIP had lost against CSK in the second semi-final.
