2. Pat Cummins - 20.50 Crores (2024)
ODI World Cup champion skipper Pat Cummins from Australia made the IPL 2024 auction a rollercoaster ride. Cummins who showcased his tactical brilliance and leadership of the highest quality during the recently concluded mega event in India, was expected to go big in the mini-auction. However, Cummins may not have thought that he would add another feather to his illustrious career.
The fiery Aussie pacer became the highest-ever overseas player after he was sold for a whopping 20.50 crore INR. Speaking of the bidding battle, given his superb leading record for Australia, all the franchises were eager to avail his services. Notably, Cummins had entered the auction with a base price of 2 crores and became a hotcake after RCB, CSK and SRH got into an intense battle. In the end, SRH edged out their competitors for a history-defining amount to make the Australian skipper part of their squad. As a result, he surpassed Sam Curran to become the highest-paid overseas player.
Interestingly enough, even during the IPL 2020 auction, Pat Cummins was a sought-after name as he was bought the Kolkata-based franchise KKR, for a hefty 15.50 crores. In another notable move when it came to Australian players, Cummins' good friend and teammate Travis Head joined his captain after he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 6.8 crores.
