Michael Clarke 6/9 v India: The former Australian World Cup winning captain is a maverick customer with the bat. “Pup” is well known for his heroics whenever he uncurled his left arm turners. The Mumbai pitch was tailor-made for spinners during the 4th Test match between India and Australia, but it was part-time spinner Michael Clarke who rose to the occasion and triggered a collapse. JP Duminy 3/29 v Sri Lanka: The promising southpaw is the mainstay in South Africa’s batting line-up. But interestingly, JP Duminy is the first South African to take a world cup hat-trick. Duminy is just the eighth man overall to take a hat-trick in a World Cup match. He thrashed Sri Lanka’s dream by picking up 3 wickets for 29 runs with 1 maiden in 9 overs. South Africa went on to win the one-sided quarter final by 9 wickets with 192 balls to spare. 3. Sachin Tendulkar 5/32 v Australia: India had notched up 309 on the board while Australia were up for the daunting task. Having put up 202 on the board with 19 overs to play, the target looked gettable until Sachin Tendulkar, the bowler injected life into the game. Steve Waugh played one back to Sachin, only to see the little master juggle it to celebrate the breakthrough. Sachin then picked up Lehmann with a straight one, Darren tried to hit it across, but he was trapped in front. He bowled a faster one on the leg side as Bevan stepped out and failed to get back before Mongia’s final act. Tom Moody went on to play an ambitious shot while missing it completely, resulting in another scalp for the little master. Australia was 259/8 when Damien Martyn tried to loft one and ended up finding Javagal Srinath. Sachin Tendulkar finished up with 5/32 as India won the match by 41 runs. 4. Yuvraj Singh 5/31 v Ireland: The dashing prince of Punjab became the first cricketer in the history of World cup to take 5 wickets and score a fifty in the same match. He picked up skipper Porterfield for 75, caught and bowled KJ O’Brien in style and picked up 3 more wickets on his way to 5/31 in 10 overs. His all round efforts helped him in picking up the man of the match award. 5. Andrew Symonds 5/18 v Bangladesh: (source) The Australian batsman rolled his golden arms to good effect, as he picked up a career-best 5/18 against Bangladesh at Old Trafford, Manchester. He bowled 31 dot balls out of 7.2 overs, as Bangladesh were all out for 139. In reply, Australia reached the target in just 19 overs without losing any wicket. 6. Allan Border 7/46 v West Indies: It was a turner at Sydney, but West Indies would have not been perturbed by the prospect of facing Allan Border, who had taken 16 wickets in his 100 Tests till then. Australia were playing two specialist spinners in Peter Taylor and debutant Trevor Hohns while West Indies had brought in Roger Harper for Patrick Patterson. Border went on to get Australia’s best figures by a spinner at the SCG; his 7 for 46 – he took four more in the second innings that set up a consolation win for the hosts. 7. Kraigg Brathwaite 6/29 v Sri Lanka: He has 3 first-class wickets to his credit. Kraigg came in to bowl in the 53rd over. He gutted Sri Lanka’s middle and lower orders, moved his team briskly towards parity, as he picked up 6 wickets for 29 runs in 11.3 overs. Sri Lanka were all out for 206 in the 2nd innings, as West Indies got an edge in the game but in the end the home team won the match by 72 runs. 8. Basil Butcher 5/34 v England: An occasional leg-break bowler had only bowled in one innings in his Test career spanning 31 Tests before Port of Spain. In three overs, Butcher took four wickets and in his full spell of 10 overs, interrupted by rain. Butcher took only those five wickets in his Test career, averaging less than six balls per match in his 44 Tests. 9. Simon Katich 6/65 v Zimbabwe: The 2nd Test match between Australia and Zimbabwe turned out to be an eventful one as Simon Katich rolled his golden arm against a spirited Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe had made 308 in the 1st innings but lost the tempo in the 2nd innings, as Katich picked up 6 vital wickets. Australia went on to win the match by 9 wickets. Simon Katich ended up with magical figures of 6/65. 10. Marlon Samuels is more than handful when it comes to bowling. He was an unlikely hero for the West Indies as he grabbed four wickets to help dismiss Zimbabwe for 211 on the first day of the first Test at the Kensington Oval. West Indies won the match by 9 wickets.
