10 players who can end up as the leading run-getters in T20 World Cup 2021

The ICC T20 WC starts from 17th October and will go on till 14th November this year in the UAE. It is being held after 5 years & the fans all across the world can’t wait for the tournament to start. It is great for cricketers playing the IPL as its 2nd phase is being held just before the T20 in UAE itself. They can’t hope for a better platform to showcase their talent to the cricketing world. T20 is known to be a batsman’s game due to the big bats, shorter boundaries which in turn leads to less margin of error for the bowlers. For a team to win the T20 WC, there need to be 1-2 in-form batsmen who can smash any bowling attack consistently & score big runs for their team. So, let’s look at- 10 players who can score big numbers in T20 WC 2021 1. Dawid Malan Dawid Malan of England hits out. He has scored 1091 runs in 28 matches at an average of 45.46 & a strike rate of just over 142. These stats clearly indicate his dominance in T20Is at the moment. However, there is criticism regarding the fact that he can’t hit spinners for sixes in the middle overs which is the type of bowling he is most likely to face. But the 33-year-old batsman has enough experience to tackle this criticism & prove his point. Also, due to the abundance of match-winners in the English batting line-up, Malan might play with a carefree mind & express himself to the best of his abilities & help England win their 2nd T20 WC. 2. Babar Azam Babar Azam. He has a fantastic record in T20Is scoring 2120 runs in 55 matches at an average of 48.18 & a strike rate just below 131. He also has 19 fifties & a hundred to his name. His strike rate is often considered low but the form Babar is in, once he has set the attack, he can single-handedly win matches for Pakistan. The equation is absolutely simple. Pakistan has a chance of winning the WC only if Babar Azam leads from the front & ends up at least in the Top 3 run-scorers of the tournament. 3. Chris Gayle Chris Gayle of West Indies hits 6. Such has been the impact of Chris Gayle, known as The Universe Boss on this format. He lit up the 1st match of ICC T20 WC in 2007 where he smashed the South African bowlers all over the park, scoring 117 runs off 57 balls. He has over 14000 runs in T20 cricket, miles ahead of everyone. He has scored 1818 runs in 70 matches at an average of 29.8 & a strike rate just above 140. He also has hit the most sixes in this format (1030). The West Indies team is filled with match-winners, but Gayle is simply the biggest match-winner of this format. His name is enough for opposition bowlers to have headaches & sleepless nights & every team would pray their match with the West Indies goes without a Gayle storm. 4. Virat Kohli Virat Kohli against England. He is the only batsman in the world who averages over 50 in all formats of the game. He is the highest run-scorer in T20Is scoring 3159 runs at an average of 52.65 & a strike rate just above 139 with 28 fifties to his name. His record is second to none in this format. Sometimes, his strike rate falls down in middle overs but with stroke makers filled in the Indian batting line-up, the team can play around Kohli & all know the damage he can cause to any bowling attack in the last 5 overs. He will be desperate to win his 1st ICC trophy as captain & will put everything on line especially after the recent loss to New Zealand in the WTC final. 5. Quinton de Kock Quinton de Kock. He is in sublime form scoring 50+ scores in 6 successive innings at the international level, which is a great sign for South African cricket. He has scored 1558 runs in 52 matches at an average just above 33 & a strike rate of 137.4. After declining captaincy of South Africa, he would be eager to show his worth as a player in big tournaments & be the man his country requires him to be to be able to lift the T20 WC. 6. Rohit Sharma Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma is definitely India’s man for big stages. The Indian vice-captain has been the best batsmen for India in all the formats in the last two years. He has scored 2864 runs in 111 matches at an average of 32.18 & a strike rate just below 139. He has hit the 2nd most sixes (133) & has also the most centuries (4) in T20Is. He was also the highest run-scorer in the 2019 WC & India’s highest run-scorer in the WTC final. India would want him to replicate his performance at the T20 WC & end the jinx of losing knockout matches by helping India lift their 2nd T20 WC. 7. David Warner David Warner. (Photo Source: Getty Images) David Warner is the epitome of consistency in T20 cricket, especially the IPL. The attitude & character he brings to the side is exemplary. He is the only player to have debuted for Australia without playing a first-class game. He came in & smashed South African bowlers to bits & pieces, scoring 89 runs off 44 balls in his first T20I. He is the only one to have won the orange cap thrice & has been SRH’s highest run-scorer in every season he has played. He has scored 2265 runs in 81 matches at an average of 31.46 & a strike rate just below 140. He was Australia’s highest run-scorer in the 2019 WC. Warner has stepped for the nation in the big tournaments and he can turn a game on its head very quickly. The 34-year old is at the latter stages of his career & would like to end his T20I career with a bang by being the top run-scorer & lifting the T20 WC. 8. He has been one of the X-factor players for New Zealand in T20Is, scoring 1724 runs in 65 matches at an average of 31.35 & a strike rate of 156.44. He also has 3 T20I hundreds to his name, most by a Kiwi. Some people criticize Munro for only sweeping the spinners & not being able to rotate the strike effectively. However If Munro manages to strengthen this part of his game, then New Zealand’s chances of winning their maiden T20 WC are doubled. 9. Aaron Finch Aaron Finch. (Photo by Francois Nel/Getty Images) Undoubtedly Australia’s best T20I batsman, Aaron Finch would be looking to stamp his authority on this year’s T20 WC and make Kangaroos look like the cricketing giant again. He has the record of highest individual score in T20Is, scoring 172 runs off 76 balls against Zimbabwe in Harare. He has scored 2473 runs in 76 matches at an average of 37.47 & a strike rate of just above 150. The Australian captain will look to lead from the front & guide his country to the only ICC trophy which has been eluding them for quite a while now- the T20 WC. 10. He is arguably the cleanest hitter of the cricket ball England has ever produced. He has scored 1791 runs at an average just below 31.5 & a strike rate of 140.25. He is England’s most consistent batsman in the shortest format. His ability to score anywhere on the ground with ease makes him one of the best limited-overs batsmen around the world. With England having one of the strongest batting line-ups in the world, the no 1 ranked T20 team will look to justify their ranking by winning the T20 WC & if Jos Buttler fires, this plan can become a reality without any doubt.
