12 facts about the Dazzling Dwayne Bravo: Dwayne Bravo is a genuine all-rounder who brings the Caribbean charisma to cricket. He has made his name for himself around the world with his skilful and aggressive batting, wily medium pace bowling, electric fielding and amazing dance moves. These qualities make him an invaluable asset and an highly sought-after player in the glitzy T20 leagues.

1. Inclined towards sports since childhood:

Bravo was born on 7th October in 1983 and was brought up Santacruz, Trinidad. He has been inclined towards sports since his childhood and grew up playing football and beach cricket.

2. Stellar performances in domestic cricket:

Bravo made his first-class debut in the year 2002 for Trinidad & Tobago and was also the past of West Indies A squad for the tour of England. His best domestic performance came in the year 2003. He scored a century and also took a match winning 6-11 against Windwards island. This performance enabled him to earn the reputaion of an all-rounder.

3. Promising debut:

Dwayne Bravo made his debut in the year 2004 against England in England. He has a fruitful series and emerged as the leading wicket-taker for West Indies in the Tests. He took 16 wickets at an average of just over 26.

4. Leading wicket taker for CSK:

Dwayne Bravo was the purple cap holder in the 2012 edition of Indian Premier League playing for Chennai Suer Kings. He took 15 wickets at an economy of eight runs per over.

5. Related to Lara: 

Dwayne Bravo is a distant relative of Brain Lara. He has said in an interview that Lara has inspired him since is childhood. Bravo had said, “When Brian Lara became such a big sensation, I knew that all I wanted to do in life was get involved in the game and play for the West Indies.” Brain Lara has also spoke highly of Bravo and reckoned that he is the future West Indian superstar.

6. Cricketing family:

Dwayne Bravo’s half-brother Darren Bravo is also an international cricketer. Dwayne is five years older to Darren. Unlike, Bravo, who is an all-rounder, Darren Bravo is a left handed batsman whose batting style is very similar to West Indian great and his distant relative Brain Lara. According to Darren Bravo was motivated by his elder cousin since childhood.

7. Controversies:

Bravo has been involved in few controversies in his playing career. The most recent one being in 2014, during a tour of India. Bravo was the spokesman for the players during players strike which resulted in the tour being cancelled half way. He was later omitted from the West Indies World Cup squad for the 2015 World Cup.

8. Retirement from test cricket:

He was controversially sacked as the ODI captain in 2014 and was later dropped from the 2015 World Cup squad. Consequently, he announced his retirement from Test cricket on 31st January 2015. He played his last Test in the year 2010.

9. A Rockstar:

Dwayne Bravo’ talent is not limited to cricket only. His eye-catching dance moves are a regular feature in T20 matches. He has featured in two music videos. He collaborated with Beenie Man and Guyanese dancehall star Timeka Hall. In 2014, he released his first solo single “Go Gyal Go.” Bravo represents Chennai Super Kings in IPL and enjoys immense popularity. In an upcoming Tamil movie, Ula, Bravo plays a cameo, where dances for a song and also lent his voice to the ending parts of it.

10. Flown to Jamaica in a private jet:

In 2008, during the Indian Premier League, Bravo was playing for Mumbai Indians. The West Indies Test series versus Australia clashed with the IPL. But, MI owner Mukesh Ambani ensured that Bravo reached Jamaica for the series in time. He was specially flown to Jamaica in Ambani’s private jet.

11. Family man:

Bravo has two children — a daughter and son. During the World Twenty20 in 2014, Bravo changed his jersey number from 47 to 3, because his son was born on October 3, his daughter was born on August 3 and his mother too has her birthday on 3rd. Teammates call him a very humble man who leads a simple life.

12. Teams represented:

Bravo plays for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League and Chittagong Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League.
