1. Dual Doddle:
Ryan James Harris was born on October 11, 1979, Sydney, New South Wales. Harris is a dual citizen of Britain and Australia, due to his father being born in Leicester. He revealed during the 2013 Ashes of how he almost opted playing for England.
2. Early Ambitions:
Wisden notes that Harris dreamt of being a pilot when he was young. However, he could not pursue it as he has a fear of heights and wasn’t very good in academics.
3. Family Man:
Harris lives with his wife Cherie, whom he married in 2012, in Brisbane. In 2015, the couple had their first child; Harris missed the 2015 West Indies tour to be present at the birth.
4. Nickname:
He is popularly called by the name “Ryano”, since his hulk like structure clearly compliments the stampeding animal.

Harris has notched up 303 wickets from 82 first class matches. Harris turned out for South Australia for the first six seasons in First-Class cricket. He finished with them in 2007-08, having played 26 matches for them and taken 67 wickets at a high average of 37.00. At Queensland, he came off age as he played 22 matches for them and took 101 wickets at 23.38. In his first season at Queensland, he was called up for the Australian team.

Harris scored 2056 runs in the first class circuit at an average of 20.15 with a best of 94.
8. ODI Call up:
Harris made his international debut in One Day International against South Africa in Hobart on 18 January 2009, during which he took the wicket of Neil McKenzie in a spell of 1/54. Harris went on to play 21 ODI matches for Australia, picking up 44 wickets.

Harris claimed three 5 wicket hauls in ODIs. His best bowling figures (5-19) came against Pakistan at WACA.

Harris made his way to the national side at the age of 30. In March 2010, Harris was called up to the Australian squad for the first time, for the Test series in New Zealand. He made his Test debut in the first game at Wellington, taking 2/42 and 4/77. In the 2nd Test, Harris took 3/50 and 0/38.

Harris played 27 Test matches and picked up 113 wickets at an average of 23.52 with the best bowling figures of 7-117.
12. Injuries and setbacks:
Time and again injuries turned out to be the major road block for the pacer. His international career came to a halt after he failed to recover from a knee injury.
13. Expert Opinion:
When Harris was serving time away from cricket to recover from injury, he signed up for commentary for Australia’s domestic matches in 2014. Later, he was also a part of the expert panel during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Harris could consider this as a career post retirement.
