15-year-old Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad youngest name in IPL 2020 auction list

He impressed during the series against India U19 recently.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 auction is going to be an exciting event that will be held in Kolkata on December 19, 2019. Initially, 971 players had registered their names for the opportunity to earn big bucks in the most popular and richest T20 league in the world. But the IPL governing council asked the franchises to shortlist players and trim down the list.

Meanwhile, there were many young players in the auction pool as well, given that the IPL is known for being the stepping stone for newcomers to show off their talent. Many Indian and foreign players have come here young and matured into complete cricketers and one nation has taken much advantage of the same, Afghanistan, which has seen the likes of Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman shining brightly and making them proud.

14 years and some days shy of 15, Noor Ahmad ready for IPL glory

Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan have become household names with IPL giving them international popularity and fame. Rashid was the second Afghan player to be bought in IPL auction by Sunrisers Hyderabad, after Mohammad Nabi who has become the core of SRH playing XI. Now its time for another young Afghan player to shine and his name is Noor Ahmad, the 15-year-old who hails from Kabul.

A left-arm chinaman bowler, Noor came to India as part of the Afghanistan U19 team last month and picked 9 wickets in the series that India U19 won 3-2. However, his performance was good enough for the scouts who were looking for new talents for the league. Noor is among the seven Afghanistan players registered in the auction. He was also called up for trials by the Rajasthan Royals recently.The others are Mohammad Shahzad, Zahir Khan, Karim Janat, Waqar Salamkheil, Qais Ahmad and Navin ul Haq.

Meanwhile, the huge list of players vying for a place in the IPL franchise was shortlisted to 332 players. This includes a total of 186 Indians, 143 overseas & 3 players from Associate nations. Amongst the players who have set their base price at the highest at INR 2 crore are Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Chris Lynn, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Dale Steyn, and Angelo Mathews.

Robin Uthappa is the only Indian with a base price of INR 1.5 crore, while Piyush Chawla, Yusuf Pathan, and Jaydev Unadkat have set their base price for INR 1 crore.
