1. Born and brought up

Robin Uthappa was born on  November 11, 1985, in  Coorg, Karnataka. Robin Uthappa is survived by his parents and his younger sister.

2. Sporting dots

Robin Uthappa was born and brought up in a sporting family. His father, Venu Uthappa is a former hockey umpire.

3. Nick names

Robin Uthappa is nicknamed ‘The Walking Assassin’ for his tactic of charging the bowler.

5. Eye catching performance

Robin Uthappa first burst into the public scenario, when he made 66 for India B against India A in the Challenger Trophy in 2005. The following year, in the same tournament, Uthappa made match-winning 93-ball 100 against the same team, which helped him to stamp his authority in the bigger stage.

6. Dream debut

Robin Uthappa made his One Day International debut in the final match of the English tour of India in April 2006. He made a stylish 86, opening the batting for India.

7. Clinching the T20 World cup

Robin Uthappa scored a vital half century against Pakistan in the 20–20 World Cup in South Africa, when India were struggling at 39/4. With this, he became the first Indian to score a 50 in a 20–20 International match.

8. IPL times

Playing for Mumbai Indians, Robin Uthappa scored 320 runs from 14 matches at a strike rate of 114.69. Robin Uthappa was swapped for Zaheer Khan in the next season. Robin had a dismal season, scoring only 175 runs from 15 matches.

The 2012 season turned out to be eventful, representing Pune, he notched up 405 runs from 16 matches at a strike rate of 118.07.

In the next season, he amassed 434 runs at a strike rate of 116.98.

The breakthrough season turned out to be 2014, as he scored 660 runs at an average of 46.78, with a strike rate of 137.60.

9. Forgettable World cup

Robin Uthappa was selected in the 15-member squad of the Indian team for the 2007 Cricket World Cup held in the West Indies in March–April 2007.

He played in all three group games, but only scored 30 runs in total as India suffered a shock defeat to Bangladesh and a loss to Sri Lanka resulting in the team not qualifying for the Super 8 stage.

10. Comeback tale

Robin Uthappa came in to bat at no.7 spot in the 6th ODI against England in the 2007-08 series, scoring a match winning 33 balls 47, to keep the series alive.

He has scored 934 runs from 46 matches in ODI, at a strike rate of 90.59 and an average of 25.94. He has 6 ODI fifties to his credit.

11. Mr. Consistent

Robin Uthappa holds the record for most consecutive 40+ scores in 8 games consecutively in IPL.

12. Captain’s call

His impressive performance during the IPL 7 season saw him selected as captain of the India A team touring Australia.

13. Emphatic season

Robin Uthappa finished the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy season as the highest run-getter. He has scored 8053 runs at an average of 41.51, with 19 centuries and 45 half centuries in 119 first class cricket matches.

14. Blistering knock

Robin Uthappa scored the second fastest half-century in Indian Premiere League, when he scored 51 runs from just 21 deliveries playing for RCB against Kings XI Punjab.

15. Every run worth gold

Robin Uthappa was the second costliest player to be sold in auction in 2011. He was picked up by the then Pune Warriors for USD 2.1 million.

16. Stylish front

Robin Uthappa was awarded the most stylish player by people’s choice in the 2010 IPL award function.
