Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who is currently the world’s no. 2 bowler in the ICC T20I rankings, has claimed that two teams from the Indian Premier League (IPL) have approached him. This has happened after his exploits against India helped Sri Lankans win their first bilateral series against the Men in Blue in a long time. In fact, it was their first T20I series win against their neighbors.
Sri Lanka managed to win the T20I series by a margin of 2-1 against a COVID-struck Indian team. Hasaranga was the highest wicket-taker on either side as he managed to win the player of the series award. During the three matches, he picked up seven wickets. Apart from this, he also scored 29 valuable runs at a strike rate of more than 130.
During the entire series, his economy was less than six and it was visibly clear that it was getting difficult for the Indian batters to pick him easily. In the series decider, Hasaranga managed to create havoc on the Indian batters as he ended with figures of 4 for 9 from his four overs. His efforts helped Sri Lanka restrict India for just 81 for 8 in the 20 overs.
Getting a chance to play in the IPL is a big deal: Wanindu Hasaranga
During a recent interaction with Lasith Malinga on his youtube channel, Wanindu Hasaranga admitted that he has been approached by two IPL teams after his performance against India. He also admitted that playing in the cash-rich league is his dream. “Two IPL teams have approached me after the series against India. Getting a chance to play in the IPL is a big deal and it’s my dream to feature in the IPL one day,” said Wanindu Hasaranga.
There has been no confirmation yet which are those IPL teams and neither has Hasaranga revealed. But there are chances that the teams have the conditions in the United Arab Emirates in their minds. There were some reports that Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore have approached the leg-spinner, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
