A 20-year-old player from South Africa is hogging all the limelight. In a 50 overs club game between NWU-Pukke and Potch Dorp, Shane Dadswell went on to score a mind-boggling 490 runs from just 151 balls. Yes, you heard that absolutely right.
At the Witrand Oval, Dadswell celebrated his 20th birthday with a mammoth inning of 490, an individual score that has been never heard of in a limited-overs game. His side NWU Pukke posted an unimaginable total of 677/3 in their quota of 50 overs. He hit a stupendous 27 boundaries and an unbelievable 57 sixes in his breathtaking innings.
He closely missed out on claiming the landmark score of 500. Four bowlers conceded more than 100 runs out of the six who were employed. None of the bowlers had an economy rate lesser than 10. Dadswell was ultimately dismissed by Cobus Crowther.
Hundred for the second best
The other batsman who made his mark was Ruan Haasbroek who slammed 104 from 52 balls. He hit 12 boundaries and 6 sixes. However, when compared to Dadswell knock of 490, this was nothing. He ended up with a fantastic strike rate of 325.
On the other hand, their opponents Pitch Dorp were restricted to a total of 290/9 in their quota of 50 overs. While there were some contributions from the batsmen, no one stood out with the bat. As a result, NWU-Pukke went on to win the game by a stunning margin of 387 runs.
Ros Brodie, who is a production assistant from Johannesburg was the first to break this news on Twitter.
She tweeted, “Insane batting in a 50-over club match in Potch. Is this ground the size of a postage stamp? And if CricInfo is to be believed, today is Dadswell’s 20th birthday.”
