The 2019 World Cup is open with not one favourite in particular, reckons Clive Lloyd
Lloyd called Modern-day ODI cricket a 'tough game'
Former West Indies skipper Clive Lloyd remains to be one of the most respected in the cricket fraternity today. Having been the proclaimed leader of the ‘Greatest Cricket team in the World’, Lloyd still remains to be active when it comes to administration, selection, and active participation within the embers and fringes of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Recently, Lloyd had spoken in a BBC podcast called ‘stumped’ where he was quizzed about the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales. While there are a good ten or eleven months for the tournament to begin, it would seem as though the buildup has already begun.
Speaking about the same, Lloyd stated that he did not believe that there was a favorite as the tournament commenced. He also added that all five or six teams did indeed have a chance to do well. “I don’t think there is any one favourite, there are five or six teams, that I call, will do well.”
Windies do have a chance, believes Lloyd
In recent times, cricketers from the Caribbean have excelled in the shortest format of the game. The Windies are also the curret holders of the World T20 title, something they had won in India. However, with the likes of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard not involved deeply in the grand scheme of things, they have not excelled in the other formats.
However, Lloyd thinks otherwise. “If they play all their players who are good enough, they can be very competitive. They can even win it, in the sense that every one-day competition we have played here, we have done well. So, there is a bit of past history as well to support them.”
