22 year old Sadeera Samarawickrama all set to make his ODI debut against Pakistan
The youngster has often been compared to Mahela Jayawardene for his style of batting.
Youngster Sadeera Samarwikrama who recently made his test debut is all set to don the coloured cap. Having been included in the squad after a constantly disappointing performance by the Sri Lankan team, the right-handed batsman is all set to make his limited-overs debut in the fourth ODI against Pakistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
While Sri Lanka may have already lost the series, they still have time to introspect over their dismal performances. Nothing can be more mesmerising than the thought of trying out some of the younger prospects, with the series already out of the fray. With the inclusion of Sadeera, the team management would be looking forward to provide ample chances to the young players in order to prove their mettle.
Talking about Sadeera Samarawickrama, a team official was quoted as saying by Cricket Age, “He has already joined the squad and is all set to make his ODI debut tomorrow, as Sri Lanka batting in disarray right now”.
The 22-year-old has often been compared to Mahela Jayawardene for his style of batting. The wicket-keeper batsman who recently made his test debut has shown promising signs as a batsman and if dealt in the right hands may well be a force to reckon with, in the future.
Also, the current middle order crisis in the Sri Lankan batting line-up serves as a perfect opportunity for the youngster to instil confidence in the faith, the selectors have thrust upon him.
According to an earlier report from Cricbuzz, some team official had made it clear that the lefties struggling to cope up with the spinners was a major reason behind the decision. “We found that the left-handers we have are struggling against off-spinners, so we thought of drafting in another right-hander”
Leaving Upul Tharanga, none of the batsmen from the island nation has managed to display their valour. Thus, there would be a lot of expectations from Sadeera to grab this opportunity and deliver his best. He may well replace Milind Siriwardana who has been in awful form so far in the series.
