The twelfth edition of World Cup is less than five months away and teams are already preparing hard for the tournament. Some are busy in finalising the squads, some are making strategies to keep the players fit while some are trying to fill up all the blanks before taking the field in the mega event.

Since, the tournament would be featuring ten teams, placed in a single group, the fitness of players will be challenged to a large extent. Each team will get to play nine matches alongside a couple of warm-up games in the almost six-week-long event. So each team should have a back-up plan for their crucial players so that if somebody gets injured, he could be replaced immediately.

In this article, we look at the three Indian batsmen who can be a back-up for the skipper, Virat Kohli if he gets injured during the World Cup.

The Punjab-born cricketer has been making large strides since his dream reign in 2018 U-19 World Cup. He finished the tournament scoring 418 runs at an excellent average of 104.50, helping India lift the title. The 19-year-old then continued his prime run for Punjab in both Vijay Hazare Trophy as well as the Ranji Trophy.

Gill was recently rewarded for his consistency in domestic cricket as he debuted for India in the recently concluded New Zealand ODI series. However, he couldn’t make much in the first two matches but could well serve as a back-up for Virat Kohli if he gets injured during World Cup. Mostly, because the youngster has a plenty of experience while batting at the top. He even batted at number three for India in the U-19 World Cup.
