As the twelfth edition of World Cup is nearing, the teams are making sure to get their best bunch of players ready for the mega-event. While most of the teams are busy in finalising their squads, a few have already reserved the seats and are trying to keep them in active mode.
A total of ten teams will try their luck in the group stages while four of them will move to the next stage. Since the tournament follows the typical knockout methodology, the winners of semi-final matches will make it to the grand finale of the event. Meanwhile, as England is going to host the event, the seam bowlers are expected to drive the ship and rule the tourney.
Almost every team has got a good set of pace bowlers, however, a few of them come up with extra-ordinary one’s as well. Taking a hat-trick is one of the special moments for a bowler and when it comes in the first over of innings, the joy surely doubles.
In this piece, we look at the three bowlers who can take a first over hat-trick in the World Cup:
3. Trent Boult
Kiwis have produced some special seam bowlers over time and a few of them are doing the job for them currently as well. Trent Boult, having the distinctive skill of swinging the ball at a good pace, is surely the spearhead of the attack and would be Black Caps’ go-to man in the forthcoming World Cup. He is at his best when the ball swings which Boult proved during the recent India series at home.
With 233 Test and 145 ODI wickets, Boult is one of the lethal left-arm pacers present in the world cricket today. The 29-year-old recently picked a hat-trick against Pakistan to become only the second New Zealand bowler to do so in the ODI cricket. As Boult opens the bowling for the Black Caps and the conditions in England favour his bowling, the Rotorua-born cricketer could well be the one to achieve the feat in the very first over of the innings.
