Dinesh Mongia was one of the most underrated cricketers in the Indian team in the early 2000s. He was a vital part of the Indian ODI side in 2002 and 2003. Mongia played the World Cup in 2003 as well and was the floater in India’s batting line-up.

Most of his games came under Sourav Ganguly who had faith in the all-rounder. He may not have great numbers to show but he chipped in pretty well most times and made good contributions. However, after 2003, he was constantly in and out of the ODI side and he last played an ODI in 2007.

Once MS Dhoni took over the reins of the ODI team, Mongia never got a game. In fact, despite being India’s top-scorer in their first-ever T20I, he was not picked for the inaugural World T20.
