Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are the two powerhouses of the Indian Premier League (IPL). No other team has dominated like they have in the history of the competition. They have shared seven IPL titles between them and the CSK vs MI is one of the fiercest rivalries in the IPL.

Hence, there have been multiple occasions when players from one side have gone to the other through the IPL auction. Some players have done well at Mumbai Indians, some have done well at Chennai Super Kings and a few of them in both franchises.

However, there have been instances where one team has backed a particular player but the other team didn’t. Thus, here are three players who were backed thoroughly by CSK but MI didn’t really give them big opportunities.

1. Michael Hussey

When you think of Michael Hussey and the IPL, you think of him in the yellow jersey. He is very much part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) even though he turned out to play for Mumbai Indians (MI) one season. Right from the start of the IPL (in 2008), Hussey turned out to play for CSK.

In fact, he was the first CSK player to score a ton in the IPL. He played a crucial role in the title-win in 2011 before he won the Orange Cap in 2013 (733 runs). He scored runs consistently through that three-year phase between 2011 and 2013. But in 2014, the left-handed batsman was bought by MI where he played just nine games in that season.

Hussey was hardly backed by MI but when it comes to CSK, Hussey was one of their main contributors. After just the 2014 season, he was axed and CSK bought him back. At the moment, despite playing his last IPL game back in 2015, he is still the third-leading run-getter in the history of the league for CSK.
