3 Players MI are likely to release ahead of IPL 2023
Mumbai Indians will look to rectify their mistakes from the 15th edition of the IPL.
3. Mayank Markande
Leg-spinner Mayank Markande rose to the limelight in 2018, after a breakthrough season with Mumbai Indians. After a couple of uneventful seasons with Rajasthan Royals, Mayank was once again bought at the Mega Auction by Mumbai. With just two pure spinners in their ranks, in the form of Murugan Ashwin and Mayank Markande, it was expected that the latter would play a decent enough role in MI’s campaign this season.
However, that was not the case, as the youngster played just two games this season. The leg-spinner warmed the bench for almost the entirety of the season, as the likes of Murugan Ashwin and Hrithik Shokeen gained precedence in terms of the pecking order.
Mumbai’s handling of Mayank Markande sends across a clear sign that the spinner is not a part of the long-term plan. Instead, Mumbai would seek to go after a quality international spinner, who could really turnaround games for the side in the middle overs.
