This definitely has to be the biggest surprise for all cricket fans. Rishabh Pant who was hailed by almost everyone as the successor of Mahendra Singh Dhoni now finds himself out of the limited-overs squads altogether. A wicket-keeper batsman known for his innovate shots and big hitting would definitely be a huge miss for the Indian side.

His exclusion from the ODI side could probably still be justified. However, in T20I’s, he’s a run-away match winner and definitely deserves to be a part of the team. He provides the finishing ability which is very important for any side in the shorter formats. As said by many commentators in the past, he was potentially the X-factor in the current Indian team.

With KL Rahul taking up the wicket keeping duties and Sanju Samson being picked in the T20I squad it would now be a tough road for Pant to make a comeback in this format. Pant did not have a disastrous IPL season either as he has scored 217 runs in eight games. Therefore, his exclusion from the Indian limited-overs squads has definitely been the biggest shocker.
