The Indian squad looks all set to travel to England for the ICC CWC 2019 in England and Wales. The team looks strong on the paper and India just needs to check a few boxes before they land in England. These are just a few minor kinks in the armour and a little bit of tweaking should do a world of good for the 2-time World Cup winners.

One of the major causes of concern is Shikhar Dhawan’s form and consistency, at the moment and undoubtedly, he’ll be the key to India’s chances in the mega-event. The selectors should start looking past him once the World Cup is done with. This is because Dhawan’s career is plagued with inconsistency and with him being aged 33 at the moment, the time is ripe for the selectors to invest in some young blood.

While opportunities in the ODI squad are hard to attain, Ishan Kishan is constantly banging the door with his consistent performances in the domestic circuit and is threatening to break his way into the Indian team. Owing to the way he has gone about his cricket in the past few months, Kishan certainly deserves an opportunity to represent India in the ODIs and let’s have a look at three reasons behind the same.

Consistent performances in the domestic circuit

The 20-year-old has been smashing bowlers all around the park in the domestic circuit and he recently broke the headlines when he smashed two successive centuries in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019, playing for Jharkhand. As of now, in the 6 innings that he featured in, Kishan has got 278 runs to his credit at a mind-boggling average of 69.50.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19, Ishan was the highest run-getter for Jharkhand with 405 runs in 9 games. In October 2018, the 20-year-old was named in the India ‘C’ squad for the 2018-19 Deodhar Trophy and he ended up scoring a century in the tournament’s final.

Although T20s and ODIs are totally different ballgames altogether, these stats prove that Ishan’s has been performing consistently. Although Pant and Kishan are two quality youngsters, Ishan deserves an opportunity to prove himself in the international arena, at least in the ODI squad, post the ICC CWC 2019.
