3. To provide flexibility to the squad

Being a wicketkeeper and aggressive middle-order batsman, Rishabh Pant can give a lot of flexibility to the World Cup squad if he can open the innings. Multidimensional players are really useful for maintaining the balance of the team. Rishabh Pant’s rise as an opener could really give the flexibility to the Indian squad as it gives the selectors more options in the bowling department.

The Indian team can include an extra fast bowler or an all-rounder in the squad instead of an extra backup opener. In long tournaments like the World Cup, it’s important to have some extra bowling options for covering any last minute injuries or in matches where the management decides to rest the frontline bowlers to give them some much-needed rest before some big matches.
