In India, the scenario has gone from bad to worse in the last four months or so. The coronavirus pandemic has made sure that lockdown and panic buying have literally engulfed the country. Having racked up over a million cases, it’s third in the list after the United States of America (USA) and Brazil, regarding COVID-19 cases.

Sports in India, including cricket, have been affected as well. The Indian Premier League had to be postponed for an indefinite time period. The BCCI is looking for an apt window to host the event.

But there’s also doubts over the event, taking place in India. There have been talks of shifting the tournament to either Sri Lanka or the UAE. But if the IPL takes place in India, the options are wide open, but there has to certain protocols that need to be followed.

Here are three states that can host IPL 2020 if it’s played in India: –

1. Maharashtra

Maharashtra is in the shambles as far as the ungodly virus is concerned. The numbers have increased at a haemorrhaging rate and it hasn’t any signs of slowing down whatsoever. Over 11,000 people have lost their lives with over 2,84,000 affected cases in the state.

However, bearing in mind the double-headers in the event, the state presents some breathing space for all the eight franchises. In Mumbai, the Wankhede Stadium has hosted plethora of games. Even the Brabourne Stadium has been a witness to a number of matches over the years.

Back in 2018, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had the MCA Stadium in Pune as their home ground. It was after the Cauvery issue broke out in Chennai. It’s highly unlikely for Maharashtra to host the IPL and security measures need to be in place.
