3 Teams that should bid for Glenn Maxwell in IPL 2020 Auction
In IPL 2020 Auction, Glenn Maxwell might find bids from these franchises.
Glenn Maxwell is one of those players who makes things happen. There is always a sense of excitement when Maxwell walks out to bat. He has the ability to change the complexion of the game in the space of a few deliveries. Hence, it is no surprise why he is rated so highly.
Maxwell made his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) in 2012 but played only two games. It was in 2013 when Mumbai Indians (MI) scalped the Victorian all-rounder for a whopping sum of $1 million. However, he was warming the bench again as he featured in just three games.
It was 2014 when he switched to Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Maxwell was unleashed. Batting at No. 3, the ‘Big Show’ amassed 552 runs and had a strike-rate of 187.50. His phenomenal form helped KXIP reach the final that year. However, after that season, he has failed to replicate is heroics.
He flattered to deceive the next few years and he was eventually released by KXIP. In 2018, Delhi grabbed him for a huge sum of INR 9 crores. However, he failed in that season as well. Just before the 2019 auctions, Maxwell pulled out of the 12th season to play County cricket in a bid to revive his Test career and prepare for the World Cup.
Maxwell will be back this time around in IPL 2020 Auction and maybe one of the biggest attractions. Thus, here we look at three teams who should go for the Aussie all-rounder in the upcoming IPL 2020 Auction.
1. Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Rajasthan Royals have blown hot and cold quite a bit since their return in 2018. They sneaked through to the playoffs in 2018 while they just about managed to avoid the wooden spoon in 2019. Hence, one of the main reasons to this has been their failure with the bat.
RR have a lot of top-order batsmen in their squad. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Rahul Tripathi and Steve Smith – all love batting in the top three. Moreover, you cannot have Ben Stokes batting lower than 4 or 5. Hence, RR have a crowded top-order with multiple players competing for spots.
They lack a finisher or even a floater who can change the momentum of the game within a few deliveries. Thus, Glenn Maxwell could fit in pretty well and RR might bid for him in IPL 2020 Auction. He can be the finisher RR are looking for. Moreover, Maxwell can also chip in with a few overs of useful off-spin.
