2. Faf du Plessis
If we count on experience, there is no one as capable as Faf du Plessis to essay the role of the vice-captain of Chennai Super Kings in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. The association of MS Dhoni and Faf du Plessis will be something to watch out as the captain and vice-captain respectively.
Du Plessis’ records in leading his home country South Africa in limited-overs format have been incredible. The 36-year-old was appointed as South Africa’s full-time T20I captain in February 2013, before he took over the Test captaincy from AB de Villiers in 2016. In September 2017 he was named the ODI captain. Under him, the Proteas made the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2014.
The cricketer stepped down from captaincy in February 2020. Overall he has captained the Proteas team in 36 Tests, 39 ODIs and 40 T20Is, of which South Africa won 18, 28 and 25 respectively. Talking about his association with CSK, the cricketer may not have been a regular starter but has always played vital roles for the team in times of crisis.
