38-year-old Abdul Razzaq fighting hard to make it to Pakistan's T20 arena
Many believe that "age is just a number" and Razzaq is no different.
Many believe that “age is just a number” and Abdul Razzaq is no different. At 38 years of age, the veteran Pakistan cricketer is going all guns blazing to make an epic comeback into the foray of international cricket via the T20 format. He’d previously chosen to hang up his boots back in 2013 when he’d retired from the international scene.
However, all-rounder Razzaq made a comeback into the game when he re-entered domestic cricket earlier this year. Further, he’s found a spot in the Abu Dhabi T20, where he’s a part of the franchise Lahore Qalandars. The cricketer, in a recent interview, opined that this might be his window of opportunity to retrace his footsteps back into the game he loves.
Razzaq dreams of making a grand comeback
As reported by Khaleej Times, elucidating on how he expects to find his footing in international T20 cricket, Abdul Razzaq said, “This is a good opportunity for me to once again establish myself. I thank Lahore Qalandars coach Aaqib Javed for presenting me this opportunity. I am hopeful that if I perform well here, it will open the doors to T20 cricket for me and hopefully I also get a chance to play the Pakistan Super League.”
Razzaq further elaborated on his excitement to play for the Qalandars and to excel for his team. “We have a young side and our coach Aaqib has picked players from the backward areas of Pakistan. He has done a lot of hard work. This is a young and talented side. This is a great platform for them to perform, prove their mettle and justify their place in the team. This will also ensure the players stand a good chance to cement their place in the squad for the PSL,” said the Pakistan cricketer.
“Anyone who performs on such platforms does get recognised. Once a player performs well in such T20 events and follow it up with a good show in four-day matches in the domestic circle, the player stands a great chance to play for the national side,” added Razzaq.
