Despite featuring in all five T20Is against New Zealand, Shivam Dube failed to break into the XI during the ODI series. The all-rounder who came in as a replacement to the injured Hardik Pandya has so far played a solitary ODI in his career. Given the team’s formidable batting line-up and bowling combination, his exclusion from the XI was an expected one.

The 26-year-old who managed 41 runs and two wickets during the five-match T20I series might be left out when the Indian ODI squad for the series against South Africa is announced. Though Pandya’s comeback for the series against Proteas looks uncertain, the Mumbaikar who warmed the bench during the entire series against Kiwis might be overlooked.

Though there are no doubts regarding his all-round credentials, Dube who will be representing Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming 2020 IPL, unfortunately, had to be kept out of the XI keeping in mind the conditions, team balance and the fate of the series. Let us hope, he gets his much-deserved chances to prove himself in the future!
