1. New Zealand against Kenya in 2003:
Much like England, the New Zealand side showed fears in touring Kenya owing security reasons. The Kenyan capital Nairobi was under terrorist threat and the game between the hosts and Kiwis was slated in the same city. The Blackcaps were clear with their stand of not playing the game in Kenya and ended up conceding four points.
The New Zealand team won four of their remaining five matches and made it to the Super Sixers along with Sri Lanka and Kenya. The 1996 champions were stunned by Kenya who found a place in the next round by carrying over 10 points. Sri Lanka and New Zealand earned only 7.5 and 4 points respectively. Australia and India dominated the round by defeating all the three Group B opponents.
Zimbabwe, the other Group A team, lost to the three teams from the other Group. As a result, Kenya and Sri Lanka joined Australia and India for the semi-final. Kenya and Sri Lanka finished the Super Sixers with 14 and 11.5 points respectively while New Zealand had only eight. Had New Zealand toured Kenya and defeated the hosts, they could have had 12 points and finished in top four leaving Kenya with 10 points.
