Today marks the 49th birthday of arguably the greatest batter to ever grace the game, Sachin Tendulkar. Apart from international cricketer, Tendulkar also marked his presence in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Though the maestro only participated in the first six seasons of IPL towards the fag end of his career, Sachin made the league his own in that short period.

The highlight of his IPL career was the 2010 season where he captained Mumbai Indians and took them to the final almost single-handedly. Not to mention, he also won the Orange Cap in the same edition. But while Sachin’s accumulation of runs in IPL is well understood, what is less focused upon is the explosive side that he displayed in IPL. So today on his birthday, we take a look at 4 innings where the Master took bowlers to the cleaners.

The 2nd qualifier of IPL 2011 saw Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) go up against each other for a spot in the final. Chris Gayle, then at the peak of his powers, along with a 20-year-old Mayank Agarwal, gave RCB a massive head-start.

In reply to RCB’s formidable score of 185 on a sluggish pitch, Mumbai needed to get off to a blistering start. Sachin Tendulkar ensured they got the same. Striking at 166.6 with seven fours, Sachin scored 40 off just 24 to keep Mumbai in the chase.

But once the Little Master departed, MI crumbled under the pressure of the steep chase, falling well short of the chase. Thus would mean that RCB would reach their second IPL final (only to lose once again), and Mumbai Indians’ and Sachin’s wait for an IPL title would continue for then.
