5 Bangladesh cricketers found to have illegal bowling action

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had formed a bowling action reviewing panel earlier this year in June. The panel adjudged that five of the bowlers, who were reported with suspected bowling actions in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) have been found to have an illegal action.

The 5 cricketers are Faisal Hossain, Mohammad Sharifullah, Mustafizur Rahman, the off-spinner, Amit Kumar and Asif Ahmed. However, they can continue to play first-class cricket up to November 15 this year.

However, the committee has categorically stated that the bowlers will have to undertake corrective measures and another assessment will be conducted later in November to reaccess their bowling actions. The board is expected to pay for their expenses. There was also something good for the Bangladesh cricket as the bowling actions of Moinul Islam, Naeem Islam Jnr, Sanjit Saha has deemed to be legal.

The left-arm spinner has not been restricted completely from bowling, rather there is a barring for his ‘slider’. The Chittagong Division’s pacer, Mohammad Saifuddin, has been asked not bowl his slower ball as he his hand seemed to be bending more than 15 degrees while delivering the slower deliveries.

“We have a meeting earlier to decide the committee’s modus operandi,” bowling action review committee’s head, Jalal Yunus said earlier in June. “At least 13 to 14 bowlers have been reported during this Dhaka Premier League. We will start working with them after Eid. We will assess their bowling actions in the nets. Omar Khaled is a former spinner and, Dipu Roy Chowdhury and Golam Faruk are former pace bowlers who will work according to their areas. If we find a deviation in their bowling through the naked eye and cameras, we will have to rectify them.”
