England will start the World Cup as favourites, not only because they are the home side but more so because of the brand of cricket they have been playing in the last three years. The all-out attack strategy runs in their entire batting line-up. One of the reasons for their success has been their top order constituting of Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, and Alex Hales. Hales has been dropped to number three of late to accommodate Bairstow at the top.

Hales first came to attention in 2005 when as a sixteen-year-old, he hit 55 off a single over (three no-balls, eight sixes, one four). Standing 6 feet 5 inches tall, Alex Hales is discerned as England’s star opener and is a vital cog in the World Cup plans for the ‘Modern England’ team.

Just like his teammates, Hales has a gallantry approach towards his innings, be it ODI or T20. He has an aggressive propensity of slashing the ball. With a highest score of 171, Alex Hales has proved his mettle. Also in February 2018, Hales has committed himself solely to limited-overs cricket by signing a white-ball only contract with Nottinghamshire. On a hard and flat pitch, Alex Hales will be eyeing Guptill’s landmark.
