4. Dean Jones: 1146, From 4 Jan 1990 to 22 Feb 1993
Dean Jones had taken the initiative to redefine the way ODI cricket was to be laid in the following years. He used to rotate the strike with ease and this put up massive pressure on the opposition. This is mainly because, in an era when a run rate of 4 was sufficient, he used to score around 6-7 runs per over. Well, it is no surprise that Jones was the best ODI batsman then.
In 164 ODIs, Jones managed to score 6068 runs. Apart from that, he had a healthy average of 44.62. With seven centuries to his name, he was one of the finest strikers of the ball back then. Jones managed to have a decent strike rate of 72.57 during the mid-90s as well.
Because of his brilliance, he was the number one batsman in the 50 over the format for 1146 days. At that time, the Australians were in a transition phase, which was so successful that they won three consecutive World Cups after that. Jones was the flagbearer of the Aussie team that managed to give tough competition to the best teams in the world. Jones had a career-best rating of 918 during his tenure as the best in the business.
