A couple of years ago a left-hander grabbed the eyeballs with his batting prowess in the 2017-18 BBL. Yes, it is none other than D’Arcy Short who awed the cricketing fraternity with his belligerent striking. After that, he went onto play for the national team and enjoyed decent success in the yellow jersey.

He also played an IPL season for the Rajasthan franchise but couldn’t repeat his BBL heroics. The southpaw struggled to come to terms with the slow bowlers and bogged down under the weight of expectations. However, it didn’t affect his Big Bash form as he amassed over 600 runs in the 8th edition of the tournament. His average of 53 and strike rate of 140 was one of the reasons why Hobart Hurricanes finished at top of the points table in the league stage.

Short is a proven match-winner in the slam-bang version of the game and his stats validate the point. Also, his wrist-spin can be useful in the middle-overs. So his well-rounded game might earn him another IPL contract before the 13th edition of the league. Particularly he might enjoy batting on the true surfaces of Wankhede so the Mumbai franchise should keep an eye on him. He might be able to play freely in the presence of stars like Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard.
