There is a reason why Usman Khawaja is a highly rated cricketer and it is because of his sheer batting elegance. When he is in full-flow every cricketing fan will get to watch the game in its purest form. He is one of the rare cricketers who can play the deft shots and the power shots with the same grace. In all, he is a batting talent of the highest order.

For a player who is mostly considered as a red-ball commodity in the Australian cricket circle, Khawaja has generated some good numbers in T20 cricket. He has scored 1900 runs in 66 games. Especially nobody can forget his dream-run in the 2015-16 BBL where he piled on 350 runs in just 4 innings. His performances resulted in an IPL contract with Rising Pune Supergiants. However, he only got limited opportunities and was subsequently dropped after a couple of seasons.

Though the left-hander is a regular feature in the IPL auctions his poor track record in the sub-continent conditions has deprived him of elusive signings. However, he might have changed the notion after his fruitful tour to India earlier in the year where he gathered 383 runs in 5 ODIs. Khawaja can be a useful pick for the Chennai franchise as he can solve their opening woes which remained a headache for them in the last season. He also has the technique to flourish on the slow Chepauk surfaces.
