It was 2007 when a tall all-rounder from the West Indies Kieron Pollard made his debut during the World Cup against South Africa. But, this all-rounder showed his true potential against NSW during the 2009 Champions League. He went on to smash a quickfire 18-ball half-century.

Pollard was such a destructive force that during the auction, Mumbai had to win a tough battle against Chennai. Even though he had a mediocre two years with the bat in the 2011 and 2012 IPL seasons, he went on to score a match-winning innings in 2013. For the national team, he was a decent performer.

Post the 2011 World Cup, he played one of his finest knocks versus India. But, he was unable to help his team cross the hurdle. Over the years, Pollard has made some significant contributions with the bat. As the West Indies champion bids adieu to international cricket,  Let’s have a look at-

If there is one man in the T20 circuit who can keep the hope of chasing 241 in 20 overs alive even after a poor start, it is Pollard. The all-rounder found no support from his bowlers during the first innings. This meant that it was a run feast as India put up a mammoth score of 241 runs.

However, the Windies had a disastrous start with both their openers getting out in the single-digit score. Pollard and Hetmyer then stitched a strong partnership but it was not enough for the Windies. When after scoring 241 runs, the home team followed a defensive approach.

This shows the reputation Pollard had during his stay at the crease. While batting with the tail, he easily smashed sixes and the Windies managed to score 173 runs in 20 overs. A strike rate of 174.36 in a desperate situation shows how mighty Polly was in the shortest format of the game.
